Marsh’s Fontan (3rd stage palliative open heart surgery) failed three years ago today.
I won’t ever forget how he lingered for five days far too close to a place we, as parents, all hope to go before our children…
Then he had massive pleural effusions.
Then he developed not one but two hospital borne bacterial infections in the surgical wound which left a crater so deep in his chest the entire first knuckle of my pinkie fit in it while I applied the topical meds.
Then the arrhythmias a year and 3 days later.
And then the rest that brought us to today.
I’m thankful for all of it (most especially the good thoughts and HUGE prayers) but most thankful for Marsh, his brothers, and the time I spend as their mama.
